The Hans Günter Brauch Foundation (HGBS) supports two prizes on peace, ecology in the Anthropocene and of linkages between these themes.
A local prize for High School Students in the Neckar-Odenwald County in South Germany and this International Science Prize.
The annual International Science Prize for Peace and Ecology in the Anthropocene is supported financially by the HGB-Foundation in Mosbach, Germany.
Each Call for the International Science Prize (ISP) differs. The theme of the ISP 2025 is:
“Impacts of Wars and Global Environmental Change on Food Insecurity, Hunger and Migration”
The ISP 2025 will be awarded on 9 October 2025 in Mosbach (Germany).
The first recipient of the HGBS International Science Prize on 14 July 2023 was Prof. Dr. Tobias Ide (Perth, Australia and Hiroshima, Japan).

Two international recognitions were given to: Dr. Tom Deligiannis (Canada) and Ass. Prof. Richard Marcantonio (USA).

The second recipients of the HGBS International Science Prize on 10 October 2024 were: Prof. Dr. Gregory Thaler (Oxford University and Dr. Victor Tsilonis (Thessaloniki, Greece).

Three international recognitions were given on 10 October 2024 to Dr. Annet Adong (Uganda), Dr. Melissa Roxana Quispe-Zuniga (Peru) and to Dr. Christo Idowu Odeymi (Nigeria, Australia, Japan).

The HGBS awards the international science prize annually to a scholar (or up to three scholars) of any country who has (have) made innovative scientific contributions on the theme of the annual call. Applicants who have obtained already a PhD are invited to submit their application until 31 May 2025 and to add an electronic version in pdf of their work (book/manuscript):
- A printed version of the published text with the name, book title and ISBN that was published since January 2020;
- A CV of the author with the author’s professional affiliation, list of publiccations, postal and Email address, the author’s phone number and identity (ORCID and copy of passport page);
- A signed letter that the applicant has authored the submitted text.
The HGBS offers three alternatives for awarding the third HGBS international science prize (ISP 2025):
- Direct application of a scientist from any country of the globe;
- Nominations by professors and heads of research institutes globally;
- Nominations by scientific publishers based on research of the peer-reviewed literature.
- The members of the global jury will shortlist the submissions. Only those authors that were selected should submit a printed copy of their book.
The deadline for the submissions of an application/nomination is 31 May 2025. Please send it to: hg.brauch@onlinehome.de. If the application/nomination is short-listed and successful the HGBS asks for a printed version by mail to: PD Dr. Hans Günter Brauch, HGB Foundation, Alte Bergsteige 47, 74821 Mosbach, Germany.
- All applications will be carefully reviewed by the global jury.
- If submissions are assessed as equal in quality the prize is preferably to be to be awarded to a female scholar or to a scholar working at an academic institution in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
- In case of an unpublished manuscript, the book may be published in the peer-reviewed book series: The Anthropocene: Politics - Economy - Society - Science published by Springer Nature Switzerland.
The third international science prize will be awarded on 9 October 2025 in Mosbach and consists of a prize money of 3000 Euro, an airline ticket to Frankfurt, a train ticket to Mosbach and the stay in a hotel in Mosbach, Germany. The prize may be divided among up to three scholars from different parts of the world. The theme of the third call is: “Impacts of Wars and Global Environmental Change and Climate Change on Food Insecurity, Hunger and Migration”. The HGBS awards this science prize annually to one scholar (or up to three scholars) of any country who has (or have) made (an) innovative scientific contribution(s) on the theme of the call.

Each scholar participating in this competition must submit an original text of research authored solely by the applicant in English that was either published since January 2020.
- as a peer-reviewed book
- or is preferably an unpublished original text (PhD dissertation or habilitation)
If submissions are equal in quality the prize will be awarded to a female scholar or to a scholar working at an academic institution in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The HGBS offers three alternatives to award the first HGBS international science prize:

- Proposals and nominations by professors and heads of research institutes globally;
- Based on research of the peer reviewed literature on the call by the global jury.
